Treasure hunt 2009

Treasure hunt 2009 (click on image for details about the painting)

This is my recent work. A long deep painting.....

It felt like I was dealing with a long fiend when I painted this mystery abstract. I was tired at the end of many days of this painting project as it was quite a lot of 'action' and 'dynamics' to create this. But the following night when I visited the corner where he stood, I felt confided with this mystery-treasure hunt. If you like a serene fiend of a mystery, then this is for your walls. Has textures with several layers of patterns, abstract-shaped chips with contrasting colors. A dripping wet feeling add to the mystery of the treasure hunt.

Squares contest

I had started a "squares" contest for artist in fine art america. The artists were all so enthusiastic to show us the treatment of square in their artwork. Of course participation shows the spirit. But I decided to interview top three finishers to tell us about their treatment of "squares" and a little about their home and space around them. I think these kind of artist networking would help artists know the pulse of other artists' response.

Created with flickr slideshow.

Here comes the interview of the top 3 finishers!
Their views on the environment they chose to live,
their passion for art and of course what squares or other greometric patterns mean to their artwork..

Artist in the order of increasing votes:

Artist Eugenia Mangra

I would like to thank you for your appreciation. I congratulate you as well for organizing this contest.

Here are my answers to the interview:

1. Where do you live and why?
I live in Romania because it is the place I was born and I chose to stay here, in a country with spectacular landscapes and filled by people that are open, friendly and with much artistic feel.

2. What feeds your creative spirit?
My works are full of spontaneity, and, at the same time contain symbols that represent a union between the various creations of humanity. I have associated different elements of the artistic language in order to seek to express the essence and give new values to the energies of the Sky and the Earth.

3. Use of squares in paintings, does that restrict you or set your mind free?
I have a sense of freedom while I paint, regardless the symbols I use. In fact, their presence in my work represents a way of expressing the message I wish to convey.

4. What does square symbolise as in your art?
The presence of squares in my works symbolizes stability, safety, balance and can distinguish the centre of interest of the painting.

5. What other geometric shapes do you like to use in your art?
The circle and the spiral, elements exceptionally rich in expressiveness, are also present in many of my paintings.

6. Finally, congrats again on the win, tell us about that single object in your house that you cherish and that is square?
I would like to thank you. A square object that I treasure and keep in my house is in fact a painting.

Artist Bissenger Elena

Dear Elena,

Congrats on winning the squares contest. I would like to interview the top 3 finishers with some light questions.
I think this would prompt good discussion amongst artists and will help us network better!

Here are the questions. Please send me the answers so I can post about the winners in my blog...

1. Where do you live and why?

2. What feeds your creative spirit?

3. Use of squares in paintings, does that restrict you or set your mind free?

4. What does square symbolise as in your art?

5. What other geometric shapes do you like to use in your art?

6. Finally, congrats again on the win, tell us about that single object in your house that you cherish and that is square?

Cheers,
Divya

1. Where do you live and why?
I LIVE IN THE ARIZONA DESERT. I MOVED HERE 25 YEARS AGO FOR BUSINESS REASONS. I HAVE STAYED BECAUSE OF FAMILY AND HAVE ENJOYED THE ENTHUSIATIC RESPONSE TO ARTISTS OF ALL KINDS, NOT TO OVERLOOK THE BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. ARIZONA IS A 4 SEASON STATE ....I CAN HAVE COLD WEATHER WHEN I WANT IT, MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS AS WELL...
PINE TREES AND CACTI. SUNSHINE AND RAIN.

2. What feeds your creative spirit?
MY INTERNAL NEED TO SPILL MY GUTS ON CANVAS. I AM AN ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST.

3. Use of squares in paintings, does that restrict you or set your mind free?
NEIHTER, REALLY..IT IS JUST A TOOL.

4. What does square symbolise as in your art?
THERE IS NO ANSWER FOR THIS QUESTION FOR ME. MY PROCESS ISN'T ABOUT USING SYMBOLS. MY PRODUCTS ARE A PERK AFTER A DAY OF EXPRESSION. OFTEN TIMES, IT IS GREAT UNDERPAINTING FOR MY NEXT DAYS' ADVENTURE.

5. What other geometric shapes do you like to use in your art?
I LOVE CIRCLES...THEY ARE PRESENT IN MOST ALL OF MY ART.

6. Finally, congrats again on the win, tell us about that single object in your house that you cherish and that is square?
HANDS DOWN, IT WOULD BE A BRAND NEW CANVAS, WAITING FOR MY EXPRESSION TO COVER IT. I PREFER TO PAINT ON SQUARE CANVAS BECAUSE OF THE COMPOSITIONAL CHALLENGE.
A NEW CANVAS, THOUGH BLANK, REPRESENTS ALL POSSIBILITIES FOR MY FUTURE.

Was not that an awesome set of interviews of the artists who this time chose words instead to colors and patterns to express what they felt?

the snake talisman - ARTIST DIVYA SEKAR FRANKFURT AM MAIN GERMANY

Today's abstract (Romance and the mystic series)

A Bernhard Requichot inspired style. What could be a better style
to express a mystic talisman that is so deeply imbibed with snakes and magic; lurking in the house of that mystic man in India...?

I remember the agony, the depth and strong inexplainable magnetism in Requichot's paintings when I saw them in Pompidou in Paris. I have emulated some character of his in "the snake talisman"

a cylindrical talisman in metal that extends to a squarish talisman on sides, contributes to the mysticity

The ancient brown temple - ARTIST DIVYA SEKAR

I have been busy in building my new website and I am happy with the way it turned out. AND, I did paint some new ones for my "Romance and the mystic series"

TODAYS ABSTRACT
My interpretation of south Asian temples which are now in ruins. The remains convey a deep and mystic story of the past that I have potrayed here - the emotions of the people, their thoughts, their way of life & how every great thing that goes down, will be recorded by history and will be touched and felt deeply by a future that visits it.

I was working on my website for the past days and also painted some new works under my new 'romance and the mystic' series.

Will update the new website address and my new works soon.

Ocean sunrise - ARTIST DIVYA SEKAR ABSTRACT IMPRESSIONIST GERMANY

I have been researching a lot about using natural light for photography as my first sale wasnt successful, as I couldnt capture the exact colors of the painting by using artificial lights (floodlights in my case). Also, this is quite a drawback for photographing "METALLIC" and "TEXTURED" paintings, as they tend to be challenging to photograph due to the reflections...and another problem is the difference in colour due to different monitors
Thanks to a forum post in ETSY, I came to know of some "natural-like" lights...
I have been trying to fish out some in Germany, and there was an awesome article about the science behind these natural lights and where must one find it in Germany.....I am hoping to find really some of these bulbs or lamps when I go shopping tomorrow...Will keep you all posted and once I have this magic bulb I must redo my photography again..
BACK TO DAILY ABSTRACTS
Welcome AGAIN to my ocean series..This time I have attempted to create impressionist of sunrise at the ocean. Highly textured METALLIC painting. Reds, browns, copper, silver, black

Sea by night

15.7 x 15.7 x 0.6

The sea is ravishing at night. She tends to be oozing some beastly pleasantness. And the scene changes every second. I have portrayed these subtle changes in this quads (4 canvas) series. Also, the sand on sea shore has a visual glittery that could be combined effort of the moon and the radiating waters. Turquoise, black, ivory, copper.

Daily abstracts is born

What is special about daily abstracts?

Its a humid day, sweat trickles down my spine and my temples. I wait for it to happen. I have been on the waiting for many impatient days, many uncountable hours. Why doesnt the sky open and shower down to the cracked earth?

I have learnt to live with the same uneasiness. I forget about it.

And then it happens...the drops trickle down from what seems like a sky located millions of light years away.. For the next few long minutes the drizzle caresses the things on earth like a masseur, after that the monsoon gathers momentum, force, and a boldness... Monsoon splashes like she was bewitched...

My inspiration to create art is as natural as the nature can be - Raw, virgin, bold, mild, shocking and moving...

This is my webportal to talk about talk about my works and the ones in progress and to stay connected with fellow artists.

Feel free to tell me whats on your mind,

Cheers,

Divya
